Designing Nostalgia

Published June 5, 2025 by Moss & Mule

Every great t-shirt starts with a feeling. At Moss & Mule, our goal isn't just to create a cool graphic—it’s to take you back in time with every thread and texture.

We pull inspiration from old yearbooks, Polaroid tones, faded parking lot stripes, and the way the radio sounded on summer drives down backroads. That’s the stuff nostalgia is made of—and it shows up in every curve and color we print.

Designing nostalgia means honoring the imperfections. It’s about the fray on a well-loved tee, the print that cracks over time, the way your dad’s softball shirt fit after 10 years of Sunday wash cycles.

We go through dozens of drafts, exploring fonts that feel familiar but fresh, color palettes that could’ve come straight from a 1974 picnic, and layout rhythms that match the memory they represent.

Our hope is that you don’t just wear our shirts—you remember through them. That’s what designing nostalgia means to us. And it’s what makes every Moss & Mule piece more than merch—it’s memorabilia.
